Introduction to Silversmithing Course

£60.00

Enjoy learning how to make your own silver jewellery in this fun and satisfying hands-on workshop with Rob Morris in his purpose-built workshop overlooking Whitstable and the sea.

In the morning, Rob will take you through the joys and pitfalls of working with silver. He’ll explain the properties of different metals, demonstrate a selection of techniques such as forging, texturing, soldering and wax carving. You’ll then experiment with copper to get a feel for the basic techniques involved in manipulating metal.

Join Rob in his purpose-built workshop overlooking Whitstable and the sea for a fun day where you can either start your jewellery-making from scratch or build on previous skills. The day is informal and filled with laughter, but you should leave at the end of the day with a good understanding of the many techniques and possibilities for creating beautiful pieces, and even a piece you’ve made yourself!

The course runs from 10 until 4, wear clothes you don’t mind getting dirty and please bring a packed lunch – we’ll provide tea, coffee and biscuits.

All prices are per attendee and exclude the metal we supply for you to use – this will be costed by weighing your finished piece(s) at the end of your session and charged based on that day’s precious metal price (this seems fairest, as students tend to make pieces of very different weights!).

As we need at least 3 students to make the course viable, we may need to tweak dates through discussion with you to find suitable days – we are happy to work these out around everyone’s availability.

Please WhatsApp Rob on 07980 543212 to discuss suitable dates – courses are run from March to November, and longer bespoke courses can be arranged by request.
